In September 2019, Project H.A.L.O began its partnership with Generating Genius (www.generatinggenius.org.uk) who work with young people in the Black and ethnic minority community in London who are underrepresented in higher education generally and in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) in particular.
Three students from the UniGenius programme were chosen as H.A.LO scholars after an intensive selection process and receiving their Advanced Level results in August 2019.
The H.A.L.O -Genius scholars will be financially assisted throughout their university programme with a substantial bursary paid directly to them twice during each academic year.

We awarded 9 undergraduate and 1 post graduate scholarship.
Our initial projection for the year 2020, was to grow our scholars’s list from the initial 3 to 9 but we were inspired by the candidates and had to expand that number to a total of 13.
It must be mentioned that we had 15 excellent undergraduate candidates to choose from, all, with offers from either Oxford or Cambridge University.
The final selection were 9 extremely gifted scholars who were all accepted at the University of Cambridge to study a diverse range of undergraduate degrees and one post graduate student studying MA at the University of Westminister.
Starting my 2nd year of med school( which is known to be the hardest year), I knew I had to have the right mindset and time to do pass this year very well. Hence, this scholarship was essential for me this year. Having a mentor such as Dr. Obichere, which was arranged by Project H.A.L.O. as part of their new mentorship programme ( one of the best surgeons in the country) who gives me exclusive insight and advice on medical school is a true privilege.
Additionally, receiving this fund has allowed me to discontinue seeking a job and enabled me to just focus on my degree for this year.
I am very grateful for this and I cannot thank the Karim family enough.
We are supporting YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people’s mental health. Turning real-life experiences into positive change, they are fighting for a future where all young minds are supported through life, whatever the challenges.
This year is particularly special for YoungMinds, marking 25 years since they were established. In that time there has been a much needed shift in the conversation around mental health and, vitally, the crisis in children and young people’s mental health is now widely recognised. Yet, for those who need it, help is still much too difficult to find: 84% of parents of children with mental health problems told us they find it difficult to get help for their child. Further still, 76% of parents told us that their child’s mental health deteriorated while waiting for support from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
YoungMinds exist to break down the barriers to finding support, and make sure children and young people have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties. They are there for parents when they have nowhere else to turn, they empower professionals on the front-line of the mental health crisis, and they give children and young people a stronger voice in their future.”
